Are you feeling overwhelmed by everyday smells, like perfume, cleaning products, or even fresh paint?

Do you experience headaches, fatigue, or difficulty breathing in response to these common products? These distressing symptoms might indicate Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS), a condition that makes everyday environments challenging and exhausting as it impacts your daily life in ways others may not understand.

My story

I know first hand the struggle of chronic illness.

I experienced it all—chronic fatigue, joint pain, breathing problems and severe and unexplained sensitivities to food, smells and chemicals. When traditional medicine failed me, I turned to herbal and natural therapies.

Through extensive study of herbal medicine, identifying and addressing hidden infections and toxic mold exposure, I reclaimed my health.

My story is what fuels my passion to help others experiencing unexplained symptoms and chronic illness which traditional medicine is unable to solve. I’ve empowered hundreds of patients to find their root causes and achieve lasting recovery, and I want to help you do the same.

Understanding Multiple Chemical Sensitivity

Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) is a condition where individuals experience adverse reactions to low levels of chemicals found in everyday environments. MCS is an unrecognized serious chronic and devastating disease characterized by dysregulation of multiple organ systems causing a wide range of symptoms. The disease still lacks diagnostic tests and International Classification of Diseases code (ICD-10), but it can be set based on the following criteria:

  • the disease starts after chemical exposure

  • the disease is chronic, lasts more than 6 months and impairs patient’s quality of life

  • symptoms are present in several organ systems

  • symptoms appear frequently on chemical exposure

  • very low concentrations of the chemical (lower than the average tolerated and/or previously tolerated) may cause worsening of symptoms

  • the response occurs to many chemically diverse substances.

MCS risk factors
and triggers

MCS can arise from either a single, significant exposure or from prolonged, low-level exposure to environmental chemicals and toxins. These harmful substances are commonly found in everyday items like pesticides, solvents, paints, building materials, tobacco smoke, vehicle exhaust, air fresheners, cleaning products, perfumes, and personal care products, many of which emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Occupational exposure, moving into a new home, or undergoing renovations can also introduce new chemicals from furniture, paints, and synthetic fabrics, which may trigger MCS symptoms.

Poor indoor air quality, especially in moisture-damaged buildings, can be another major factor. The presence of mold, mold toxins, and other biotoxins in these environments often contributes to MCS development.

Chronic infections—such as those caused by liver flukes, Lyme disease, or certain viruses—have also been linked to triggering MCS, further complicating the condition.

In addition to chemicals, certain foods—especially those treated with pesticides or containing artificial ingredients—can become problematic for people with MCS. ;edications and medical devices can  also play a role in initiating or worsening MCS. Many people with MCS report heightened sensitivity or adverse reactions to anesthetics, implants, antibiotics, chemotherapy, and other medical treatments.

Testing & Diagnosis

The importance of proper testing and diagnosis

While no single definitive lab test exists for MCS, various assessments can be done to identify potential root causes and rule out other conditions with similar symptoms.

Scientist using microscope

Dr. WÄ…sik uses a variety of functional tests, that are essential for pinpointing the root cause of MCS by evaluating various genetic, biochemical and environmental factors.

Key types of functional tests include:

Genetic
Tests

Identifies genetic predispositions that could make an individual more susceptible to environmental toxins. These tests might include polymorphisms in detoxification genes and HLA typing.

Environmental Toxins Profile

Detects the presence of environmental chemicals, pollutants, and heavy metals in the body that contribute to MCS symptoms.

Urine Mycotoxins Test

This test measures the levels of mycotoxins, toxic substances produced by molds, which are considered a major trigger for MCS.

Nutrient Deficiency Tests

Identifies deficiencies in essential nutrients like B vitamins and minerals crucial for detoxification. Addressing these imbalances can optimize detox pathways, reducing sensitivity to environmental toxins and improving MCS symptoms.

Infectious Disease Panels

Infections can trigger or worsen symptoms in individuals with MCS. An infectious panel might include tests for parasites, Lyme disease and co-infections, Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) or cytomegalovirus (CMV), fungal infections.

Antioxidant Levels Test

Measures the body's antioxidant status crucial for detoxification and protection against oxidative stress.
